How Many Steps Does it Take to Get to the Promised Land?

I'm simply talking about turning on the TV.  Should be simple, right?

Let's get a little perspective.

We had a friend come to stay at our place to take care of our fab pooch for 4 days.  The instructions that the Gardener left in order to turn on all of the equipment so she could watch TV or a DVD was TWO PAGES!!!  She decided to read her book instead.

Now, I'm a relatively intelligent gal...no Einstein but good enough.  However, I don't know how to turn on the TV.  Why?  I haven't taken the time to learn the 10 steps involved. That's right 10.  Is it worth it?  Hmmm??  Well, the good thing is that I don't watch TV during the day.  Though, I have heard that some of the cooking shows are quite good.

So, what are the 10 steps to the Promised Land, as set forth by the Gardener:

1. Turn on amplifier #1

2. Turn on amplifier #2

3. Around the back of the PS Audio power conditioner, turn on the master switch

4. Around the front of the said conditioner, turn on the power switch

5. After the conditioner is on, the TacT will turn on automatically, but the Bryston DAC will not. So, turn on the Bryston (it's the right-most button on the front).

6. Turn on the power to the preamp - it's that little black box on the floor behind the TV. The power switch is on the back.

6a. On the preamp, make sure the toggle switch marked "PROCESSOR" is in the down position

7. With the DirectTV remote, press ON. This turns on the TV and the Satellite receiver.

8. Make sure the TV is switched to the correct input - Component 2. If not, use the switches on the right side of the TV to do it.

9. Adjust volume by turning the preamp to 3 o'clock position, and the TacT to 80 (a good starting point).

10. Make sure the TacT is on Digital input #5

Simple!  Assuming that you know what all of these things are.

Well, there you go.  Now you can come over and watch TV.

Hi!!  So, I feel it's only fair to hear from the other side.  The one who lives with and deals with the audio(geek)phile.

Before I lived with this lovely person I was a boom box and then iTunes with small speakers person whose understanding of "the sweet spot" was totally different.  I wasn't dragged into helping with audio tests i.e "I'll close my eyes and you switch the knob from A to B and I'll tell you which one sounds better"...you know stuff like that.  We sometimes have endless conversations...conversations?  Hmmm--  One sided chats about what the next piece of equipment, cable, or tube might be and why.  I sometimes have to jump in and say "I can't hear about audio anymore".  However, listen to how knowledgeable I have become!!  Also, I have to admit the music from this system is delicious.
